Scooby Doo Haunted Holidays

Every Halloween season our family looks forward to dressing up in cute and creative costumes. This year we partnered with HBO Max to create fun and DIY costumes inspired by some of the characters of Scooby-Doo Haunted Holidays. Btw, this animated film is currently streaming on HBO Max.

Now let’s talk about these costumes, who did we choose to dress like, and how you and your family can have fun creating them for yourselves at home. These costumes were simple because we used most of our regular clothing and added a groovy touch via some fun DIY.  The characters we chose to dress like were, Rosanna as Daphne, Chanell as Velma, Winston as Fred, and of course our beloved Yorkie Paris as Scooby-Doo.

Here are some of the items we purchased at a local crafts store to add a personal touch to these Scooby-Doo inspired costumes. We got a yard of felt fabric to create Fred’s iconic orange scarf for Winston, we believe this item added a nice pop of color to the navy top and bottom that the character Fred has in the animated film. We cut a thin piece of felt, trim the ends in a pointed angle, and tied it to resemble a scarf. See the pictures below for a visual reference.

Another important item that we bought was some chenille stems, these helped us create Chanell’s glasses, we thought stems would be a nice touch since Velma is the only character that wears glasses in the animated series. The process to create them is super simple and it only requires a few of them and we only used 3 because Chanell’s face is small. You have to mold them into a circle, then the others into the leg that sits on your ear, and attach them together, see the photos below for reference.

A fun part of this DIY was creating Paris’ dog tag with chenille stems. For this one, we grabbed a few different color stems and bent them into a diamond shape, after we attached them together and created a cute dog tag that looks like Scooby-Doo’s. These particular stems came in handy because we were able to use them in several different ways to create these costumes.
